Start with a shared data contract
Moving data between systems also requires a shared meaning. A product code, order status or inventory movement should represent the same concept on both sides.
Where is the source of truth?
Define which system owns each field. When the same data can change in multiple places, conflicts and inconsistent states become a concern. Establishing ownership reduces that ambiguity.
Consider duplicates and failures
What happens when the connection drops? How is a repeated movement handled? What about missing fields? Operational reliability depends on these answers.
Give users visibility
Understanding an integration should not require reading technical logs alone. Visible status, understandable errors and controlled retries make everyday operation easier.
